Meeting for Southwark residents on the Sustainable Communities Act organised by the Active Citizens Hub

Wed 15th April 2009
6pm – 8.30pm
Peckham Settlement, Goldsmith Road, SE15
Refreshments provided.

The Sustainable Communities Act is potentially a remarkable piece of legislation. It provides a valuable opportunity for citizens and councils to make proposals to the government which they consider would encourage the improvement of the economic, social or environmental well-being of local areas. It is an Act that could empower citizens and should give effect to argument that: ‘citizens and councils are the experts on their own problems and the solutions to them’.

Southwark Council has opted into the Sustainable Communities Act, and now has to put forward proposals for the government to consider. But what exactly does the Act mean for Southwark, what is the process for submitting proposals and what sort of proposals fit the criteria?

Come along to the meeting organized by the Active Citizens Hub, as part of the Take Part Programme, learn about the Act and put forward your ideas
