Sat 18 Dec Bussey open studios & galleries

MESSAGE FROM PECKHAM VISION

In January 2006, over 200 locals packed into a big room in the Bussey building to hear the news that TfL and the Council planned to sweep away everything on a huge 7 acre site, including the Bussey building, in the middle of Peckham Town Centre to build a tram depot. This started the campaign to advertise far and wide that the site was not derelict as they had said, but was the home to an amazing range of social and commercial activities. The demolition plan was finally scrapped in 2009.

With a local growing demand for premises for artists, and other small creative businesses, and the light shone on the potential of the Bussey and the rest of the site, it soon became known as the emerging Copeland Cultural Quarter, see: http://www.peckhamvision.org/wiki/Copeland_Cultural_Quarter.

This exciting growth continues. Some of the growing cultural businesses on the site can be seen this coming weekend on Saturday 18th December. See
* their Press Release below and
* their own website: http://www.thebusseybuilding.com
* the illuminating JPG graphics map of the Bussey and the site at the end of the Press Release.

Lots to see and experience. Don’t miss this great opportunity to visit these usually hidden gems. Entrance at 133 Rye Lane opposite Blenheim Grove.
