regeneration/gentrification seminar Thurs 10 March 7-9pm

Living in Peckham, we have a lot of personal experience of ‘regeneration’ and what it has and hasn’t done for the area, and who benefits. Here is an interesting chance to discuss this experience in a wider context and with a wide range of people.

Thursday 10th March, 7-9pm,
New Gallery London (92 Peckham Road – opposite Southampton Way).

Message from New Gallery 92 Peckham Road

This Thursday 10th March, 7-9pm, New Gallery London (92 Peckham Road) will host an evening of discussion about urban regeneration/gentrification. Confirmed speakers include:

* Emma Jackson – a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant at King’s College London, currently working on an ESRC-ANR funded project exploring the relationship between the middle classes and the city in Paris and London. At present Emma is undertaking research in Peckham.

* Theo Middleton – activist and political philosophy post-graduate student.

* Eileen Conn – long time local resident in the Bellenden Renewal Area, and active in Bellenden Residents’ Group, ‘Peckham Vision’, and Peckham Town Centre Forum.

* More information and updates on Facebook:

Invitations to participate and present have been sent out to (among others) members of the local council, local businesses and residents and academics with gentrification as their research interest.  Though we’ll make particular reference to our immediate surroundings in Peckham and Camberwell, discussion will not be limited to such areas. The nature of the event will be open to all and inclusive. Anyone can turn up, sit round, listen and contribute. The aim is to facilitate a non-hierarchical discussion about something both important and relevant.

If you think you can contribute with a more formal presentation or talk to intersperse discussion, please do contact: lucyalper@newgallerylondon.co.uk.
