Peckham Town Centre Forum + 14th March meeting

To all on the Peckham Town Centre Forum (PTCF) list

The next meeting about the town centre will be on WEDNESDAY 14th MARCH in the Bussey building 133 Rye Lane. This will be a community meeting about a number of important developments in the town centre. Please see the meeting details at the end of this email.

PNAAP
The Peckham Town Centre Forum (PTCF) grew out of Peckham Vision and Rye Lane & Station Action Group collaboration with Michael Carnuccio the Council planner who was working on the PNAAP.  The purpose was to bring together the variety of interests and stakeholders in the town centre and together deepen our understanding of the issues facing it. The last PTCF meeting was April 2011 (see http://www.peckhamvision.org/wiki/Peckham_Town_Centre_Forum). Michael left the Council last April, and since then the Council’s PNAAP formal consultation processes took place over June to September. The next stage is just starting with the publication this week of the PNAAP Preferred Option report. The formal consultation will continue until 24 April. The report is available through ‘view online’ on http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200315/peckham_and_nunhead (Appendix A). The hard copies will be available from the usual places eg libraries and council offices, within the next few weeks.

HISTORIC RESTORATION
Alongside the continuing work on the PNAAP, the possibility of restoring the square in front of the station began to be potentially realisable within the next 10 years with Council funding. This has now been brought forward to within the next 5 years because some £5m is being made available, from the London Mayor through the GLA, to add to the funding from Southwark Council.

Also we will hear at the end of March if Southwark has got through the first round for a major Townscape Heritage Initiative grant which would be a 5 year programme, complementing the work on the station, restoring selected historic buildings in Rye Lane and the High Street. This is a national UK competitive bid, so not certain. If the bid is successful, the initiative would, in addition to conserving the beauty of the historic buildings, make the town centre more attractive for investment and provide the base for significant linked and complementary community social and economic development activities to benefit wider Peckham.

14th MARCH MEETING
A lot more of this will be clearer by the time of the meeting. We hope you can come to hear all the latest news, help us celebrate the huge success in getting this far, and take part in developing the momentum, enthusiasm, energy and ideas for the next stage.

If you know of anyone else interested in the town centre do please send this on to them.

Finally, if you would be able to volunteer to help on the 14th March to prepare the meeting room in the Bussey building or assisting at the exhibition or welcoming people to the meeting, please contact us. We always need several pairs of hands.

I THINK THIS IS A VERY GOOD IDEA ABOUT IMPROVING THINGS IN PECKHAM, AND PLACES TO SEE AND DO, AS I HAVE ALOT OF TIME ON MY HANDS NOW IM NOT WORKING, I WANT TO HELP THE PROJECT WITH BEING ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY AS I LIVE LOCALLY, AND IT WOULD HELP ME AND YOU IN PREPARING THE VISION FOR PECKHAM AND ITS PEOPLE IT WOULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I AM A LOCAL REGGAE DJ AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE MUSIC GIGS LIKE REGGAE AND OTHERWISE HAPPEN MORE IN PECKHAM AS WE HAVE ALOT TO OFFER AND THE HIGH NUMBER OF BLACK PEOPLE LIVING IN AND AROUND PECKHAM WE NEED SOMEWHERE TO GO AND TO TO KEEP THE BLACK YOUTHS OFF THE STREETS, WITH NO WHERE TO GO. I JUST WANT TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION BY HELPING YOU WITH YOUR PROJECT OF PECKHAM…THANKS TERRY GAD
