Urgent – saving the Ivy House venue for the community

MESSAGE FROM Stuart Hall, Peckham Society

As you may or may not know The Ivy House pub on Stuart Road in Nunhead has been closed for the last few months; this remarkable pub and music venue, recently listed by English Heritage for its architectural importance, has been sold on for redevelopment – like so many other south London pubs. 

The local community is actively trying to keep the pub at its heart and we are trying to get it nominated by Southwark Council as a ‘Community Asset ‘ with the hope of giving it a little more protection when the council makes planning decisions in the future.  To do this we need 21 Peckham Society members, who are resident in Southwark, to provide their names and addresses and show the council that there is significant local support for our nomination.  Adding your name to the list comes with no liability or responsibility – it just shows that you are as keen as us to keep the place alive!

Unfortunately we need to move fast as the building goes up for auction in the next couple of days.  If we can get the 21 names to the Council by the end of today (23rd October) we are in with a chance of getting all the paperwork completed in time.
