in Peckham – Opera in Space 9-26 January

The Bussey building, saved by the first Peckham Vision campaign, is continuing to show more of what it can do. To start the New Year on the right foot, and add to good publicity about Peckham, there will be for over two weeks a programme of an unusual innovative opera performance over two floors of the CLF Art Cafe. Further information is in the email below.

The young professionals behind this are local people who want to find sponsors to support discount tickets to encourage young people, and others who would not normally be able to, to come and take part along with the rest of the community.

Please note the dates in your diary for yourself and spread the word. Also please consider if you or any businesses or other organisations you know could help to sponsor some discount tickets, and send this on to anyone you think who may be able to help in that way.

Peckham Vision

I am writing to you from ground breaking company, Opera in Space, regarding our production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas which we are bringing to the Bussey Building in Peckham in January 2013 (between 9-26 January, see at end for details).
We use unconventional performance spaces for our productions. The work is immersive, fun and breaks down what people expect from “operatic performance”. The Bussey Building is an exciting warehouse space in the heart of Peckham and we are taking over the first 2 floors.

We strongly believe in rooting our work in the heart of the community and are consequently offering discounted tickets to local residents. However we would like to go much further than this and reach the most diverse audience possible. We have been awarded a grant from Arts Council England which will go towards meeting our production costs and we are now fund-raising to enable local young people to come and people, who are hard for opera to reach, to come.
We are looking to businesses to sponsor ticket packages of £100 which will subsidise tickets for 12 local people. Through these packages we hope to work with schools and charities to engage young people, ex offenders, refugees, the homeless and other groups who would not normally have access to opera.

All sponsors will see their name on our website and in our programme and become part of an expanding circle of friends, sponsors and patrons who support the work of Opera in Space. If you would like to sponsor one or more ticket packages then please
