Peckham Rye Station – deputation to Cabinet 22 October 2014

From Peckham Vision Facebook: The Cabinet heard the deputation from Bar Story & Sassoon Gallery, The Sunday Painter, Peckham Refreshment Rooms and Peckham Vision. There were a number of detailed points put to them about discrepancies in the Council documents and what the Council says about the scale and nature of the station site developments. The Council reaffirmed its aim was to focus on the creation of the station square and access to the back of the station, and said that nothing has been decided yet about what happens behind the station.

The preferred option plan indicating whole scale redevelopment they said was just a technical device and not a decision. That sounds very good news. It will become clear in the next few months what it means when the architects get to work from November. Then they will start telling us what the possibilities are and arranging ways in which all with an interest can make their contributions before the planning application is decided for submission in February. While the deputation was in the Council’s meeting rooms waiting their turn to speak, Hannah Jones one of our Peckham networkers was in Tooley Street with a solo pop-up performance singing an operatic lament for Peckham facing with uncertainty the impact of these big developments. Let us hope that next time it can be a song of joy. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=586314361427065&set=o.234644763219031&type=2&theater
