16-18 December community pop-up & town centre exhibition

First reports from the Peckham Vision pop-up: Fantastic attendance all day Monday from 11am – 9pm: engaged locals found their way to us at our pop up exhibition behind the station about Peckham town centre. It’s rewarding when our community engages in our neighbourhood’s future and we empower ourselves through information. Lots of people dropped-in for the pop up talk and discussion at 7pm. And this was on a mid December cold and very wet evening! We had a lively discussion about regeneration and gentrification and found a shared concern and aspiration about the spirit of our town Peckham.

Tuesday was another successful day with a steady stream of locals visiting. Residents from all quarters of Peckham, familiar faces and new faces. Much interesting discussion and community strengthening encounters. We had a fascinating illustrated talk from Benedict O’Looney about the latest historical findings in the station building and in the former Holdron’s store across the road in Rye Lane, and now Khan’s Bargains. This stimulated a discussion about the latest on the station redevelopment project and the deep and widespread concern about the lack of scope for adequate community discussion of the issues and options for the area alongside the station and behind it.

Wednesday morning was the last day of the exhibition. We had a steady queue of people visiting and studying the information about all five current consultations as well as the historical information we have gathered together with our Peckham Society colleagues.
