Redevelopment plans for the area around Peckham Rye Station
are on the agenda for the Peckham & Nunhead Community Council
WEDNESDAY 12th FEBRUARY starting at 7pm
at Peckham Academy, Peckham Road
Please come to this meeting to support the local community attempt to get the right plan for Peckham. Encourage your friends and neighbours to come.
BACKGROUND
Network Rail’s plans were revealed on Saturday 18th January in the Rye Lane Baptist Chapel hall – see the architects’ blog with information and pictures of the plans: http://www.peckhamryestation.com. These would mean demolition of all commercial buildings beside and behind the station, and not just those in front to create the new square. This is not what was expected since the idea of the new square was first adopted several years ago. The creative industries that are taking root there would be lost; see the station site enterprises map here: http://goo.gl/I4zNp4

Network Rail architects are developing the detailed planning application to be submitted in just a few weeks’ time. Only this one major redevelopment option has been presented. Many feel there should be an opportunity to discuss another option which would create the new square and improve the area beside and behind the station, not demolish it. This would provide the right environment for the creative industries to continue to grow at their own pace. Peckham is already self-regenerating with the creative and cultural sector at the forefront, boosting the local economy. The role of the station site in this needs to be better understood.
Local Camberwell & Peckham MP Harriet Harman is Shadow Culture Secretary and has a keen interest in the creative and cultural industries in her constituency. So:
* EMAIL <harriet.harman.mp@parliament.uk>  to seek support for more time to discuss other options with the Council and Network Rail, to ensure our emerging creative and cultural industries get the chance to flourish in our local economy.
