Protect Peckham town centre from wrong kind of development – deputation 6 July

There is a residents’ deputation to the Community Council tomorrow 6th July on Monday evening, to save
Peckham town centre from the loss of retail space to the wrong kind of development.  We need
many local people there to show the Council there is widespread support to protect Peckham. There is also an online petition – please sign whether you can come or if you can’t: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/p/protectpeckham

Date: MONDAY 6th JULY at 7pm
Event: Peckham Community Council
Place: Harris Academy, 112 Peckham Road

PROTECTING RYE LANE’S RETAIL SPACES
Last April the Council lost some planning powers to control the change of use of premises in the
town centre. This means that they lost the power to stop retail spaces being turned into non retail
space. The deputation is asking the Council to return the powers it lost to aid better more informed
decision making. They can do this by issuing an ‘Article 4 direction’. They need to know a lot of
people want them to do this. You can see more info on this here:
https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/rye-lane-peckham-article-4-direction-petition

This is really important. If you agree with the need to protect retail space in Peckham town centre,
your support on the night is vital. So please come to this if you can – just 30 minutes is needed.
The deputation will be heard very close to 7pm so getting there by 7pm is important and it will all be
over shortly afterwards..
